In March 2015 we decided to go visit a breeder in Tustin who had a recent litter of labrador puppies for sale. When we got there, there were 5 or 6 black puppies, most extremely excited and rambunctious. We had read a book on how to select a puppy for your family, and we had three young kids, so we wanted to make sure that the pet we selected would be gentle. We had read that you should put slight pressure on a puppy's paw, and gently pull its tail to gauge the puppy's reaction. A puppy that gets aggressive with these tests may not be the best pet around children.

So we were looking at all these adorable puppies and each had a different color collar, so that we could tell them apart. Most of the puppies were extremely hyper. We sat down near them, and some came up to us, licked us, or nibbled on our fingers. There was one puppy that was very calm, it came nearby and just cuddled near us. It was so sweet. We already knew that she was the one we wanted, but we pulled on her tail and squeezed her paw anyway....she was still calm, and did not seem to mind at all.
The puppy was only a month old, and we were told that we could put a deposit on her, but could not take her home for another month, until she was two months old....until April 22nd. That seemed so far away. We got our home ready, got puppy food, bedding, etc. We sat as a family and thought of names for her. We put all of our name ideas on a piece of paper- Chewbacca (Chewy for short), Snuffalafagus (i.e., Snuffy), Coco, Shadow, Ebony, were some of our ideas. Then we each voted for our two favorites. Snuffy was the winning name! (Officially Snuffalafagus, but lovingly called Snuffy).

Snuffy has been the best addition to our family. She is so sweet, calm, and loving. She doesn't bark, and licks only the kids, who throw their faces next to hers, kissing her, and enjoying getting kissed back. The kids sleep in Snuffy's bed with her, sleep on top of her, and vice versa, Snuffy sleeps on our feet or on top of us. She loves unconditionally. We love her, and are so thankful for her presence in our lives. Man, Woman, and Child's best friend - that is Snuffy.
