Avinash has always loved music. He began by singing around the house. Then he learned the piano and could play by ear. He must have been around 6 or 7 when he played the tune from Star Wars that he had watched on TV. He then added other instruments to his repertoire. He learned tabla, which are Indian drums, clarinet, trumpet, and guitar. He always sang around the house, but when he requested to take voice lessons, we always gave him an ultimatum that he needed to drop some other activity. Avinash is the type of kid who wanted to do everything. Much of our time as parents went into taking him to the multitude of classes he was interested in (boy scouts, baseball, basketball, tabla, chess, and tennis, to name a few). He wanted to take voice and fencing as well, but we asked him to drop something in its stead, which he did not want to do. He was the jack of all trades. Anyway, although he sang around the house, he was shy about singing for others, and did not like it if I put him on the spot and asked him to sing something for others, even his own grandparents. In 2017, Veer began taking drumming lessons at School of Rock, and encouraged Avinash to take classes there with him. Avinash said he would only do so if he could taking singing lessons. By this time, Avinash had honed down his extracurriculars, so we were happy to have him join his little brother at School of Rock. Avinash gained confidence in his singing ability and in singing in front of others. In his Junior year of high school, Avinash decided to try out to sing the National Anthem for a prom assembly. He was selected! He sang in front of his peers, none of whom knew that Avinash could sing. His teachers were equally shocked. He said each of his classes gave him kudos for a job well done. The experience was a positive one, and helped Avinash's confidence in publicly singing. He decided to join choir in his senior year, and sang the National Anthem once more for his high school, and sang at his commencement in May 2019.
Avinash is a jack of all trades, and he is definitely musically gifted, but he is also very intelligent, creative, good-hearted, and can think outside the box. Avinash is studying Computer Engineering and Computer Science in college, and still sings all the time.
